Oil and pastel pastoral and
lake landscapes, impressionist and abstract impressionist
Artist's statement
I
am inspired by the countryside that surrounds me. During my daily hikes or
horseback rides in the Hoosier National Forest or along Lake Monroe I seek
scenes to paint. My studio is filled with antiques of French, American and
European design. Its screened porch overlooks a farm pond I am developing
with Monet’s Giverny in mind, complete with a Japanese bridge. The
surrounds are planted with perennial flowers and ornamental grass. The
shallow end of Lake Monroe is across the street, downhill from our home, a
quiet zone except for the herons, egrets, eagles and other birds that
frequent the area.
Painting became a passion as I eased into retirement. I worked in human
services and not-for-profit management for years in California and Texas.
In semi-retirement, I raised Arabian horses and ran a boarding stable. I
was educated in New Mexico and at Indiana University. My travels have taken
me around the world, including Peace Corps service in the Philippines.
Recently my husband, Harry, and I have been traveling to Costa Rica to study
Spanish. Learning new things is the best way to keep young!
Les
Nymphéas (waterlilies) Studio is located 5 miles south of the T.C. Steele
historic site. From HWY 46 at Belmont, turn onto T.C. Steele Road. After
passing the Steele site, continue onto the gravel road that goes right
(Gilmore Ridge Road.) After 1.3 miles, turn left at the “T” onto Deckard
Ridge Road. Continue four miles or so to the dead end sign and turn left
onto Axsom Branch Road. The studio is about one tenth of a mile on the
right. Ample parking is available. Golf carts are available for assistance
in roving the grounds of our 25-acre compound. |
