Oil and pastel pastoral and lake landscapes, impressionist and abstract impressionistAs an active community artist, Anabel served three years as president of Art Alliance Brown County, the county's largest artist organization, where she organized the Artist at Work program, helped develop the annual Artful Dining Gala fundraiser, wrote and received funding for a joint AABC-Historical Society "Living Treasures of the Brown County Art Colony" video project, represented artists on various local planning committees and projects. Additionally, she led abstract painting workshops at the West Baden Hotel in the French Lick Springs complex. Anabel's home studio in rural Brown County is called "Les Nymphéas" (the waterlilies) and is designed on the concept of Monet's Giverny studio and grounds, complete with fenced pond and Japanese bridge, studio filled with antiques with a French flair, and acres of landscaped grounds. During 2007-08, she operated a studio/gallery in downtown Nashville, "Contemporary Art Experience" to feature her contemporary work and provide painting lessons.
Painting became a passion as I eased into retirement. I worked in human services and not-for-profit management for years in California and Texas. In semi-retirement, I raised Arabian horses and ran a boarding stable. I was educated in New Mexico and at Indiana University. My travels have taken me around the world, including Peace Corps service in the Philippines. Recently my husband, Harry, and I have been traveling to Costa Rica to study Spanish. Learning new things is the best way to keep young! As an artist in transition, I thrive on trying new styles and directions. My current work is becoming larger, with canvases from 36" x 36" up to 48" x 60" in size. The Herald-Times published a feature article I wrote about decorating with original art, in the 2007 Home Show supplement. My most recent media coverage included feature articles in the Brown County Democrat in June, 2008, and IntoArt in fall, 2008.
