Acrylics, oil paintings, mixed media collage
 and sculptures -"Artful Spirits"

Inclusion in this year’s Studio & Garden Tour is exceptionally exciting for us knowing we can display the very special world in which we live and create.
We’ve operated the Ferrer Gallery in downtown Nashville for seven years now but have pondered how to expose our collectors and potential clients to the wonder that surrounds us daily at Ferrer Studio II.  The view overlooking Salt Creek (our northerly border) and the valley below as well as the woods that embrace us (so much a dish satellite is ineffective) will immediately endear itself to those who enter.  Our driveway was either a logging road many years ago or some suggest it may have been old 46 when it skirted the ridges to avoid the seasonal flooding. Now it affords us easy access to our woods and storage for firewood and canoes as well as the framework for Dixie’s “Artful Spirits.”

Evident is the spirit of freedom and simple beauty we attempt to express in the work we create, the subject matter, dramatic contrast from season to season, sunrise to sunset and nature’s beautiful but poignant expression of life and sense of purpose it reflects. From Dixie’s “Artful Spirit” mixed media sculptures, collage and oil paintings to Dick’s powerful impressionistic landscapes, the essential ingredients are manifest here. Weather permitting (most of spring, summer and fall) we utilize our large screened porch for painting and dyeing of leather and, of course, inspiration and relaxation.

The gardens adjacent to the house are a hosta lover’s dream as new variations are added almost every year alongside perennials, wild flowers, daylilies and elephant ears that border the path to our fire pit and onward to Salt Creek and our woods. Our work can be seen at Ferrer Gallery, 61 W. Main Street, Brown County Craft Gallery, 58 E. Main Street, and Gallery by the Green, 23 N. Jefferson, all in Nashville.
