Stoneware
and porcelain pottery
Greg
produces richly glazed functional pottery and unique wood-fired stoneware and porcelain created with a surface of natural ash glaze and flashing from direct flame contact. Each piece
is unique depending upon its relationship to the flame in the kiln.
His work has been included in
national exhibitions, including, Strictly Functional Pottery National and
Functional Ceramics Exhibition. Some of the other exhibitions have been
held at The Ohio Craft Museum, Canton Museum of Art, and Pewabic Pottery.
His work is included in various private and corporate collections, including
The Ohio Craft Museum, Ohio Designer Craftsmen Enterprises, Phyllis Blair
Clark, Director and Curator of Functional Ceramics Workshops and
Exhibitions, and Kim Nagorski, associate editor, Ceramics Monthly Magazine.
Artist's Statement:
I have come to the realization that the
attributes that I value in people are similar, if not interchangeable, with the
attributes that I strive for in my pots. Some of those attributes are honesty,
straightforwardness, subtlety, emotion, and gesture.
I make groups of pots. Like groups of
friends, each member is unique, yet has a commonality and a bond that ties one
to another. As time is spent with a pot, more is revealed, subtleties are
uncovered,
and a relationship is developed.
Greg has a woodland garden gallery featuring his work.
Schatz Studio is open Monday - Saturday, 10 - 5; Sunday, 1-5 year round .
