Sculptural clocks, furniture

The Hendersons live and work on a hilltop in southern Brown County, which they love to the extent that days may go by without leaving the hill. Joe's workshop is a short walk from the back door, and Peggy's workroom is situated with a view of the bird feeder, and the woods beyond.
Joe was drawn to the beauty and nature of wood while splitting firewood. This interest in wood has led to many projects, from spoon and bowl carving, cabinetmaking, furniture, to the current clock making and collaborating with Peggy on baskets and sculptural weavings.

Sawyer Henderson also enjoys working with wood and his sculpted utensils, some incorporating antlers, are for sale in the gallery.

Color, texture, and dimension are the key elements in the weavings Peggy creates. Surface design is as important as shape in her functional and sculptural pieces. Materials vary from piece to piece, but include reed, hardwoods, sea grass, beads, feathers, and yarn. Peggy's weavings range from a storage basket with a spalted maple lid, to a free-standing urn with cherry accents, to a wall-hanging inspired by Brown County's hills and valleys. Many of her pieces are accented with wood in either a functional or artistic way. Recent work has expanded to include pyrography on gourds, and jewelry design. Both artists exhibit in nationally recognized art shows, and have been the recipients of numerous awards.

The Hendersons share their hilltop with perennial, annual, vegetable and gourd gardens, sheep, chickens, dogs, and occasionally their children and grandchild.

Their studios are open 10 - 5 daily, throughout October.
