Contemporary and traditional baskets, gourds, jewelryWe live and work on a hilltop in southern Brown County, which we love to the extent that days may go by without leaving the hill. Joe's workshop is a short walk from the back door, and Peggy's workroom is situated with a view of the bird feeder, and the woods beyond. Color, texture, and dimension are the key elements in the jewelry, wearable art, gourds and paintings Peggy creates. Jewelry incorporates stones, metal, wood, and other organic material which display an eclectic, ethnic flair. Hand-painted clothing and scarves are made of silk and rayon, gourds are wood-burned and painted in a southwestern style, and recent paintings often include the hills surrounding their property. Both artists exhibit in nationally recognized art shows, and have been recipients of numerous awards. The Hendersons share their hilltop with perennial, annual, vegetable and gourd gardens, a miniature donkey, a cat, and occasionally their children and grandchild.
