Contemporary stained glass

Michael & Jennifer Burt have been a professional artist team since 1993. They reside and work in their home studio located in the scenic hills of southern Indiana. Both artists work independently and collaboratively in various media: Stained glass, fused glass, PMC jewelry and painting. Currently, other than their home studio, artwork can be purchased at the Brown County Craft Gallery, Columbus Visitors Center, Indianapolis Children’s Museum and 16-18 of the top Fine Art fairs in the country.

Artist Statement:

We were drawn to working with glass for its ability to absorb light, giving the glass design a depth of color and texture not found in other mediums. The uniqueness of our designs comes from our non-traditional methods of craftsmanship. We create designs on a light box without pre-drawn patterns. Once the design is done, we take a digital image of the piece so that each hand-cut piece of glass can be removed for grinding and copper foiling, then replaced back into the piece to be soldered together. When soldering is complete, a patina is applied to the solder to create an antique black color, then a protective coat of wax applied.

We like to push the boundaries of traditional glass design with the use of negative space within the piece, frameless borders with internal steel reinforcements and the addition of our own fused and blown glass accents.

Contemporary jewelry

Artist Statement:

I create jewelry in various mediums. I began making jewelry about 12 years ago, starting out with simple beaded designs. My work is always evolving and currently I am focusing on precious metal clay/pure silver in many of my designs. I use precious metal clay to create pendants, charms and beads. Clay is hand-worked then kiln fired at 1600 degrees. Pieces are then tumbled, a patina applied, then polished. Some pieces are finished with a hand-set semi-precious gemstone. The precious metal clay pieces are accented in the necklaces, bracelets and earrings with a variety of materials such as semi-precious gemstones, pure silver beads, and pieces of sewn leather.

I also enjoy making jewelry in fusible glass. I create pendants and earrings using multiple layers of fusible and dichroic glass.
