Brown County, Indiana is home to a
vibrant community of artisans and this year they're rolling out the red
carpet for the centennial of the founding of the art colony by impressionist
painter T.C. Steele, a century ago. Join us for this once in a lifetime
event - 100 years of Arts and Artists.
The Brown County Studio and Garden Tour is a free, self-guided event
designed to showcase the arts and crafts of this
present-day "Art Colony of the
Midwest."™
Twenty-one juried artisans, who continue this cultural heritage, will open
their studios and gardens June 22-24, for a glimpse into the lives of
working artists and craftsmen.
Demonstrations and activities will delight young and old, making this an art
celebration for the entire family. The tour is educational and will broaden
public understanding of the arts. You'll be able to see artwork take shape
before your eyes and talk with the artist. At some studios, you'll even be
able to take part in the creation.
This is a unique opportunity to meet artists doing what they love and to
purchase art from its source. Collectors will enjoy the new
work available especially for this
occasion.
Studios help with funding the
"Brown County Art Scholarship," established by the tour organization in
2005. Each year, local students will receive scholarships to further their
art education.
The detailed map will help you find your way through the rolling hills.
Watch for the signs and flags which mark the route and the destination
studios.
Mark your calendars for next year's tour, the 10th anniversary event:
