Godly Glass and LightSong Photography

Sandy Taylor received a degree from Purdue University in Fine Arts and French. While at Purdue, she studied at the University of Strasbourg, France. She subsequently spent 25 years in the corporate world, and earned a Masters of Business Administration from Indiana University. Sandy now happily creates beautiful and inspirational stained and etched glass and calligraphy art in Brown County, Indiana and in Venice, Florida.

Sandy works in the traditional copper foil technique. Unique to her art is the inclusion of calligraphy as a design element in the finished piece. Glass etching is a recent and versatile addition to her repertoire. Doing business as Godly Glass, her work is primarily Christian-themed, and ten percent of each sale is donated to Christian causes.

Artist's Statement

I work in both photography and stained glass. My stained glass is in the traditional copper foil technique, which I first learned in 1989. I often include calligraphy and glass etching as design elements in the finished piece.

I use a Canon Rebel xti camera, along with an ever-increasing array of lenses, tripods, lighting devices and other “necessities” of the digital photography world (quite different from those used in the early 1970s when I began working in the medium).

The final presentation of a photographic image is as important to me as capturing it through the lens. Different images demand different treatment. Some plead for canvas and mimic an impressionist painting. Others beg to be immersed in a pool of colored or mirrored glass which reflects and enhances its beauty. I personally select the “environs” for each, and do all the matting and framing myself. I use only archival and acid-free products to preserve the complete work of art. My photographs are fine art “giclee” prints, made to last for many years with reasonable care.

“Since retiring from my job, I have realized two lifelong dreams--to be a full-time artist and to live in Brown County. My desire is to glorify God and represent the beauty of His creation. Glass is a colorful medium which combines structural and aesthetic elements that I enjoy. I love to work with people to create a piece of art to complement their home’s décor.”

While at the Godly Glass studio, be sure to visit the sun-dappled fern ravine and the pond-side perennial garden and meditation bench. There's also a path around the pond for the more adventuresome visitors.

The Godly Glass studio is located in the woods of northern Brown County,
