~ GUIDELINES ~ A. Applicants must have worked in their medium for at least two years and be selling their work to the public, either on their own, in craft shops or galleries, or through exhibitions or art fairs. All work must be the original design of the member artist. The essential work required to make each finished piece must actually be done by the artist. Any commercially produced parts used in a work must play a subordinate role and may not be sold separately. B. Applicants must create their work, maintain their studio and reside at the same location in a rural or residential area of Brown County. Artists may be one or more persons residing at the same location. The studio must be finished and operational at time of application.
C.
Applicants must submit: D. Upon acceptance, you will be asked to bring examples of each medium, created in the past year, to a meeting in December. Studios will be inspected by the site committee prior to acceptance of the application. Your location will be reviewed for adequate parking, accessibility, potential problems and safety issues. Failure to address these problems in a timely fashion may result in disqualification [see Rule O]. Artists are required to have liability insurance coverage during the tours. Participants agree to abide by the guidelines set forth by the executive committee of the Studio and Garden Tour.
E.
Active involvement by each member is required in the coordination of the
tours. Members not only participate in the events, but also must help plan,
fund, promote, organize and complete the many jobs required for presentation of the
events. F. These are self-funded events, with expenses divided equally among the participants. Estimated fees are listed with the application, but are subject to change. Fees are determined by dividing all costs associated with The Tour among the members. Any additional costs incurred after the initial fee will be assessed to all participants. If you are unable to attend meetings or help on committees because of work or travel schedules, you can still participate in the tour by paying an additional fee. G. It is mandatory that you demonstrate some aspect of your art or craft during the three-day June tour. With attendance growing each year, you probably will need to have a sales clerk to meet this requirement. All federal and state taxes are your responsibility. This is an educational experience for the public and the attendees expect to be able to talk to the artists. Failure to comply will result in a board review and may eliminate you from future tours. H. If a participant withdraws from either tour after the design phase of the brochure and map has begun, $125.00 will be retained from the participation fee. If the participant withdraws from the tour for any reason after brochures and posters are printed, there will be no refund. I. In an effort to provide a uniform presentation, we have contracted with a photographer to take working artist shots for publicity purposes. The cost for these photos is covered by the application fee. The photographer will contact you for an appointment in January or February so you must have your studio ready to photograph prior to that time. J. Participants are expected to provide two pieces of work for display during the months of June and October (for The Hob Nob Restaurant and Convention and Visitors Bureau), and to deliver work and pick it up after each tour. K. If a member artist has an established gallery at their residence showing work of other artists, all such work must be removed during Tour #1. For Tour #2 such "gallery" work may comprise no more than 30% of the total work being shown in the member's gallery. Non-participating artist work in Tour #2 must meet the same standards as required for participating artists. Artwork of other tour participants is excepted and may be shown during both tours. L. Member artists must have their work for sale during Tour #1 and Tour #2. M. Members must be open for the designated Tour hours during Tour #1 and during the hours they have designated during Tour #2. N. The Tour reserves the right to make the final interpretation of all rules. O. Participating artists must agree to abide by the rules, policies and guidelines developed by the Studio Tour Executive Board. Failure to follow these standards and rules may result in expulsion from this year's Tour or disqualification from participating in future tours. |
